In honor of National Historic Preservation Month in May, the Cheltenham Township Historical Commission will present a free lecture on “The 7-30 Man: Jay Cooke and Ogontz,” by Thomas J. Wieckowski, PhD, author and vice chair of the commission. One of the most illustrious citizens in Cheltenham Township during the Gilded Age, banker Jay Cooke is best known for fund-raising millions of dollars for the Union cause to fund the Civil War, but the lecture will also explore his early life and later generosity to his friends and community.

The program will be held on Thursday, May 11, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, located at 7909 Old York Road in Elkins Park, following the commission’s regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
